Special Sessions
Purpose of Special Sessions
Special Sessions are intended to highlight emerging, cross-cutting, or transformative topics that extend beyond traditional abstract-presentation formats. They may be invited, curated, panel-based, debate-oriented, discussion-based, or otherwise structured to foster synthesis, interaction, and community engagement.
Proposals may include, but are not limited to:
- Interdisciplinary or cross-domain topics
- Clinical translation, implementation, or practice-focused sessions
- Education, policy, ethics, equity, or career-focused sessions
- Strategic, translational, or future-focused issues relevant to biomechanics
- Global biomechanics community-building and cross-society networking initiatives
- Forward-looking “future of biomechanics” topics
These sessions are designed to complement, not replace, the core abstract‑based program.
Relationship to ISB 2027 Scientific Themes

Important Notes
- Submission of a Special Session EOI does not preclude presenters from also submitting individual abstracts to the main scientific program.
- Acceptance of a Special Session is subject to review by the ISB 2027 Scientific Committee and will be based on relevance, quality, diversity of perspectives, and program balance.
- The Scientific Committee may work with proposers to refine format, duration, or speaker composition to align with overall program structure.
- Special Sessions are typically scheduled for 60–90 minutes and include 3–6 speakers (minimum 3, maximum 6, inclusive of the chair/moderator).
Please note that EOI submissions will close on Friday, 30 October 2026

Next Steps
EOIs will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Selected proposers will be invited to further develop their session in consultation with the ISB 2027 Organising and Scientific Committees.
Special Sessions are intended to enhance the diversity, depth, and strategic impact of the ISB 2027 program and may include content not typically captured through standard abstract submissions.
