ISB 2027
Call for Abstracts
The XXXI Congress of the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB 2027) invites abstract submissions presenting original research and innovation across all areas of biomechanics. Accepted abstracts will be presented as oral presentations or posters within the scientific program.
Submission categories
- Scientific abstract (general submission) – considered for oral or poster presentation.
- Student abstract – eligible for student presentation awards (where applicable) and considered for oral or poster presentation.
Eligibility, originality, and ethics
- Original work: Abstracts must describe original work that has not been previously published as a full paper. Prior presentation at meetings may be permitted if the abstract contains new/updated data; please disclose prior presentation during submission.
- Ethics approval: Research involving human participants, identifiable human data, or animals must have appropriate ethics approval (or documented exemption) in accordance with local regulations. You may be asked to provide approval details.
- Consent and privacy: Do not include identifiable participant/patient information in the abstract, figures, or tables.
- Conflicts of interest and funding: All authors must disclose relevant financial or non-financial conflicts and list sources of funding/support.

Abstract preparation and formatting requirements
- Template: Abstracts must be prepared using the official ISB 2027 abstract template and submitted a Microsoft Office Word format (.doc or .docx).
- Length: One page (A4), in a two-column format.
- Spacing and font: Single spaced, 12-point ‘Times’ (Times New Roman) typeface (captions may be smaller).
- Title/authors/affiliations: Centre-justified. The title should be in capital letters. Leave one blank line after the title and after the authors’ names and affiliations.
- Summary: Include a plain-text summary (maximum 150 words) at the start of the abstract. The same summary must also be pasted into the Summary field in the online submission form.
- Structure: Use section headings (e.g., Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, References).
- Figures/tables: Up to two items (figures and/or tables) are recommended. Captions should appear below figures and above tables.
- References: Cite references using numbers in square brackets (e.g., [1,2]) and list references at the end of the abstract.
- Language: Abstracts must be submitted in English and should be proofread for clarity and grammar.
How to submit
- Create or log in to your ISB 2027 submission account.
- Enter the abstract details in the online form (title, authors, affiliations, summary, themes, keywords, disclosures).
- Upload your formatted abstract document prepared from the official ISB 2027 abstract template.
- Review your submission carefully and click Submit.
- You will receive an email confirmation. If you do not receive confirmation, please contact the ISB 2027 Program Manager.
You may edit your abstract up until the submission deadline. After the deadline, changes may be limited to presenter contact details at the discretion of the Program Manager.
Reminder: An abstract may be rejected for not following the template or including all the requested details
Review, selection, and presentation allocation
All abstracts will be reviewed by experts appointed by the ISB 2027 Scientific Program Committee. Each abstract will be assessed for:
- Scientific quality
- Originality
- Methodological rigor
- Clarity
- Relevance to the selected theme.
Abstracts may be accepted for an oral presentation, accepted for a poster presentation, or rejected.
Notification emails will be sent to the submitting author by the published notification date.
The presenting author must confirm acceptance and register for the Congress by the presenter registration deadline to retain the presentation in the program.
Publication
Accepted abstracts will be published in the ISB 2027 abstract book/program as submitted (subject to minor formatting and editorial adjustments). The Organising Committee reserves the right to remove an abstract from publication if the presenting author does not register by the required deadline.

Q: How do I submit?
A: All abstract submissions are required to be completed online. The link to the submission portal will be linked on this page when submissions launch at the end of September. Please ensure you read all guidelines information on this page prior to commencing your submission.
Please note, emailed submissions will not be accepted.
Q: What type of presentations are available?
A: There are 2 types of presentations available: Oral presentations and poster presentations.
Q: Do you accept encore presentations?
A: ISB 2027 does not accept encore presentations. If a study has been presented elsewhere before the ISB Congress 2027, it is not eligible for submission.
What is an encore presentation?
An encore presentation is one where you have already presented/published the submitted work before.
For example if you have presented the work at another women’s health event.
Q: Can I use QR codes in my abstract submission?
A: No, QR codes are not permitted in submissions. However, they may be used in presentations.
Q: Can funding or disclaimer statements be included?
A: Yes, if applicable. They should be placed at the bottom of the abstract and are not included in the word count.
Q: How will authors be notified of submission acceptance or otherwise?
A: The submitting author (presenter) will be notified of the outcome of their submission via email.
Q: Are presenters required to register for the congress?
A: Yes, as a presenter you are required to register and pay for the congress. Any presenters not registered for the congress by the early bird registration deadline will be withdrawn from the program.
Q: Will submissions be published?
A: Only accepted abstract submissions where the presenter has registered and paid to attend the congress will be included in the Congress literature/app.
